HISTORY OF BARANGAY NONOC

Long time ago before Barangay Nonoc was given by its name, two water springs have already existed near the central part of the seashore where the inhabitants in the area and the neighboring residents used to fetch water for domestic use. They also usually took their bath and washed their clothes in those water springs, considering that water distribution pipeline is not yet available during that time. Near those said water springs, there was a huge Nonoc tree which serves as the landmark in the area. When strangers came and wanted to know where the waters springs were located, the respondent will say, “there in Nonoc.” Since then, the area is commonly called as “Nonoc”. It was first officially named Barrio Nonoc by the barrio officials who named it after the Nonoc tree during the Spanish Occupation in the Philippines. Barrio Nonoc was changed to Barangay Nonoc during Martial Law when President Ferdinand E. Marcos was the president of the Philippines.
